Why it matters

Every day, almost 8 million pieces of plastic pollution find their way into oceans.

With less than 12% of plastic being effectively recycled, plastic is effectively tampering biodiversity - a catastrophic, ever-growing reality.

How it works

Creating a carbon negative and biodegradable polymer.

ULUU is the world’s first carbon negative and biodegradable polymer that is made from the ocean’s renewable resources - seaweed, seawater and saltwater microbes. The natural polymer is produced using a fermentation process. The result is a type of polyhydroxalkanoate (PHA) that is completely decoupled from fossil fuels and can effectively replace a majority of plastics in use.

The WOW factor

The Wow Factor

By relying on seaweed as the primary feedstock, ULUU are helping reduce carbon pollution and eutrophication of waterways and also improving the lives of vulnerable people who contribute to the seaweed supply chain. Using seawater overcomes reliance on fresh water and simultaneously mitigates sterilisation costs!
