Dr Jim Rabeau

Co-Founder and CEO

A physicist with more than 20 years commercialising quantum technology and one of the earliest researchers in nitrogen-vacancy diamond sensing. He has led Infleqtion Australia, run quantum programs at Microsoft and CSIRO, and was a professor of physics at the University of Sydney. Prof Omid Kavehei, Co-Founder and Advisor. A world-leading semiconductor chip designer with more than 20 years applying standard chip manufacturing to quantum sensing, biomedical and neuromorphic systems. He co-developed Deteqt’s original prototype chip with Jim and holds a professorship at the University of Sydney.

Why it matters

Deteqt is building a new sensing modality for the autonomous revolution Physical AI is arriving fast.

Drones, autonomous vehicles and defence platforms now act on their own, powered by AI and ML. They act on what they sense. The magnetic field is a rich signal few platforms can read today, because the instruments cannot scale. A sensor that reads it can navigate when satellites fail, find ore deep underground, detect vessels beneath the sea, and more. Deteqt shrinks that sensor to a chip.

How it works

A quantum sensor, scaled to a chip.

Deteqt builds quantum magnetometers on a chip. It uses nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond, atomic-scale defects that respond to tiny changes in a magnetic field. A custom chip controls them and reads them out. This turns a lab instrument into a small, low-power sensor that can sit on a moving platform.

The WOW factor

The Wow Factor

Demand proven ahead of the product. Deteqt started with a clear market need. A $3 million defence contract funded the work for a new sensing modality for navigation. Demand has since appeared across domains: satellite-free navigation, mineral exploration, subsea detection, medical imaging, and beyond. The same chip-scale sensor serves all of them.
